Plans Are For Chumps

Yesterday (Friday) was my almost 15-year-old son’s first high school football game.  His team was playing an ‘away’ game roughly 250 miles from where we live.  (The price we pay for living in a ‘homeschool unfriendly’ community – driving our kids for opportunities.)  And even though he’s been telling me for a couple weeks it was extremely unlikely that as a Sophomore he would see any play time, I was excited about going and watching him and cheering for his team. My Spirit Animal is a Dachshund

Georgie P.

The Urban Dictionary defines the term ‘spirit animal’ as the representation of the traits and characteristics we’d like to have ourselves.  For example, if someone were to identify with a wolf as their spirit animal, they may wish to have more freedom in their life, or better instincts.   Those people feeling a spirit animal connection with cats might be seeking more courage to explore the unknown. I don’t consider myself  to be a particularly mystical or Continue Reading

5 Summer ‘Can’t Live Without’ Items

This post was most recently updated on May 7th, 2016It occurred to me the other day that there are a few items I just can’t seem to get along without, especially in the summer.  I know everyone has a favorite ‘stuff’ list:  A lipstick shade that always makes your smile look fabulous, for example; or a pair of sandals that go with absolutely everything and never, ever make your feet hurt no matter how many laps walked around the fairgrounds.  I Continue Reading

Now, I’ve been studying, researching and using essential oils for over 20 years, so I’m well-versed in how absolutely amazing they are. Continue Reading

Kids vs. Mama: Who Costs More?

Everyone talks about how expensive it is to raise kids these days. And I won’t disagree that having four kids really does put a pinch on our family budget at times. Between their activities’ fees, constantly outgrown wardrobes and endless appetites; it can add up pretty quickly, cash-wise. But it occurred to me the other morning, and has from time to time over the years, that the kids aren’t the biggest financial burden in our Continue Reading

Treasure Hunting on the Farm

A lot of bloggers I follow often talk about the great deals they find when they’re out shopping garage sales, antique shops, flea markets and so forth.   Living in or near a large metropolitan area seems to afford them ready access to a plethora of resources for potential DIY and upcycling projects.  It’s one of the few things I miss about living in the city.  (Are you shocked that Farm Mama used to be a big city dweller?  😉  And Continue Reading
