home remedy seasonal allergies

A lot of people love spring.  I do not happen to be one of them.  Where I live, the wind rampages, dust blows, and my seasonal allergies spring into full bloom.  It all leaves me feeling like a sneezy, itchy, watery-eyed, stuffy-nosed mess.  Rather than stay miserable through the season, I mix up my favorite home remedy for seasonal allergies, sinus issues, colds, & congestion.  I lovingly call it ‘Snout Juice’.

Disclaimer:
I am not a medical professional and none of the information I am sharing in this post is meant to diagnose or treat any illness or replace a doctor’s care and advice.  You should discuss any health issues with your care provider before taking this or any other remedy.  I am only sharing my own personal experience, in an effort to help inform you of alternative health options.

I’ll be honest –  I worry about side-effects from prescription and over-the-counter drugs. It’s a little disturbing how the potential side effects of certain medications sound far worse than whatever illness you’re suffering from, right?  It was this concern that compelled me to research alternative treatments and remedies for seasonal allergies.  The result of this research, as well as hours of experimentation to find exactly the right blend of exactly the right ingredients is ‘Snout Juice’. Yep, that is my actual and official name for this concoction.

Using just a few common ingredients from your pantry, you can quickly make up a batch.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1/4 Cup Raw Unfiltered Honey (locally sourced is best)
  • 1/4 Cup unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (with the Mother)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon ground Cinnamon
  • 1/8 to 1/4 Teaspoon ground Ginger*
  • 1/8 to 1/4 Teaspoon ground Cayenne Pepper*
  • 1-2 drops Lemon Essential Oil – use only pure, unadulterated, therapeutic quality essential oil OR substitute 1 Tablespoon of fresh Lemon Juice
  • Glass Pint Jar w/ plastic lid – a metal lid can react badly with the vinegar and get icky.

* You can adjust these ingredients to suit your taste.  If you prefer a less spicy blend, use less.

How To Make It:

  1. Add ingredients to jar
  2. Close lid tightly and shake vigorously until all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Remove lid and fill the jar the rest of the way with filtered water.
  4. Close lid tightly and shake until combined.
  5. Refrigerate until needed.

How To Use It:

Take 1-2 tablespoons, up to 4 times per day, at the first onset of any of the following symptoms:

  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Scratchy throat
  • Itchy or stuffy nose
  • Sinus pressure or congestion
  • Chest congestion
  • Sinus drainage
  • Sore throat
  • Take daily until symptoms subside.
  • Store jar in the refrigerator.  Shake well before each use.

Why Does This Home Remedy for Seasonal Allergies Work Better Than Others?

It’s Full of Great Stuff

These are some of nature’s most powerful medicines!

Snout Juice is very effective and it works fast.  I’ve experienced noticeable relief of symptoms within 30 minutes.

Be warned – Snout Juice doesn’t taste marvelous.  I mean, you’re probably not going to want to put it over ice in a high ball glass and sip it like a cocktail.  But I think it’s well worth the few seconds of unpleasant taste to naturally treat cold and allergy symptoms.

When suffering from sinus/respiratory ailment, we take Snout Juice 3 times a day, as well as using topical applications of essential oils (diluted with a carrier oil, such as coconut oil) to the chest, back, throat and bottoms of the feet.

For the most part, my family stays healthy. Thankfully.  It’s rare when one of us gets anything more than a seasonal allergy-induced stuffy nose or itchy throat.  Again, so thankful! And for those times when one or more of us does happen to be suffering from allergies, colds, sinus or other respiratory ailments, we’re very thankful for this easy, inexpensive, convenient home remedy.

I’ve recommended it to friends and family members countless times.  I’ve even had people ask me for my recipe because they heard someone I shared it with, rave about it’s effectiveness!  If you try my Snout Juice recipe for yourself or your family, I would love to hear about your experience.  Remember, this is not a substitute for a doctor’s advice or care.  It’s just a natural alternative to treating simple sinus and allergy woes, while saving money and time.  My very favorite.

Love & Blessings,

That Farm Mama
